Q: How long will wiper blades last?
A: If your vehicle is parked inside, we recommend that you replace the wiper blades at least once a year or as soon as you notice streaking on the window. For vehicles that are kept outside or in places where the wipers receive excessive use, you need to change the blades two to three times a year for clear vision.
Q: Are my tyres properly inflated?
A: The correct tyre pressure for a vehicle is determined by a number of factors the size/weight of the vehicle, type of tyres it uses and the required driving the vehicle is expected to do. There should be a tyre inflation placard in each vehicle indicating the proper tyre inflation pressures for that particular vehicle. This placard is located on the inside of the glove box door, inside the fuel-filler door, or on the driver’s side doorpost (this may vary depending on manufacturer). You may also find it in the owner’s manual.
Q: Why is heat coming from my A/C?
A: There could be numerous reasons why your air conditioning system is blowing hot air. The refrigerant gas could have leaked out, the condenser may be clogged or the air conditioner's blend door may be stuck. You need to turn the system off and service the air conditioner immediately.
Q: What do I do if my car overheats?
A: If your car overheats, first check that you are driving at normal speed. Immediately turn off the air conditioner, turn on the heater and pull over to the side of the road. Switch off the engine, open the hood and let the engine cool down for at least 10 to 20 minutes. When all over-boiling stops and the engine has cooled, look for signs of trouble. DO NOT try to open the radiator cap unless the engine is off and the top of the radiator is cold. If there is no noticeable problem, for example, a broken drive belt or a burst hose, you may add a coolant/water mixture to the radiator or overflow reservoir. You can then start the vehicle and drive slowly to a service facility.
Q: Why are my brakes making a noise?
A: If you hear a grinding sound from your brakes whenever you press the pedal, it means that you probably need new brake shoes/pads. Brakes shouldn’t make any noise when in use. Even if the actual problem proves to be something minor, the safest thing to do is a service or inspection right away. It could also save you additional costs in the future.
Q: When should I change my engine oil?
A: According to the experts, a frequent oil/filter change is the most important way of prolonging your engine’s life. New vehicles have a recommended oil/filter change at intervals of 12 000km and some have recommended intervals of 10 000 to 15 000km under normal motoring conditions.
Short distance and rush hour driving, driving on dirt roads and in harsh weather conditions can result in impurities building up in the oil. Therefore, there is increased wear and tear on internal parts. This is why it is recommended that you change the oil and filter every three months or 4 500km (whichever comes first). To confirm the recommended oil change frequency for your vehicle, check your owner's manual or talk to your service professional.
